The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin has revealed that at the time members of parliament had reduced the parliament of Ghana into a boxing arena, he was fast asleep at home and had no idea what was happening a the very moment it was happening.
Parliament was reduced to a boxing ring on December 20, 2021, as members of parliament clashed over the implementation of the e-levy.
Speaking on the matter, the man who was supposed to have supervised proceedings in Parliament that very day has said that he did not know about the fight in parliament until much later as he had gone home to catch a nap.
“I left Parliament after I sent my closing remarks for the day, that’s the session, through my usher to the First Deputy Speaker. So I have given notice I will not be around to read my closing remarks and I left for my house.
“Because I was so tired, later I put off my phone and fell in the bed and slept. It was after 12 pm (that) my wife woke me up to take my dinner and then after that I decided to go through social media and there I found out that the Honourable members I left in the house dishonored themselves by exchanging blows,” he stated.
