Teachers Deserve Better – Otumfuo Tells Akufo-Addo

The overlord of the Asante kingdom, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has made a case for teachers in the country by calling on Government to look into the conditions teachers work, especially their salaries.

He noted that the importance of teachers cannot be overstated and we should therefore accord them the necessary respect and importance they deserve, adding that their salaries should also reflect their importance to us as a nation.

The King made the call on Government to look into the remuneration of teachers during an address to members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) at their 6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference.

“While we will always urge moderation in the face of the national economic realities, we will nonetheless, urge policymakers to ensure that the status of our teachers truly reflect the level of importance we attach to their place in society,” he said.

“Those who really suffer are the innocent children. I urge you all to focus your minds on the need for an improved way for negotiations and consultations which will minimize, if not eliminate, any recourse to industrial action and the harmful consequences on our children.”
