Our Democracy Is Under Threat – Zanetor Rawlings

Member of Parliament for Korley-Klottey constituency and daughter for ex-president Jerry John Rawlings, Zanetor Rawlings has expressed her concern at the apparent threat faced by our democracy due to the breaking down of the very structures that glue our democracy together.

The lawmaker named high levels of corruption, and misapplication for individual benefits as the main actors threatening the democracy in the country.

“We are seeing a breakdown in the structures that keeps our democracy alive; for those who know what it took to get to this point”, she said.

She also observed that, “there is poverty amidst plenty”, in the country and the high rate of unemployment amongst the youth and the country as a whole could lead to catastrophic consequences on security in the country if prudent measures are not put in place to address the issues of corruption, poverty and unemployment.

She made this comments during an address at the 40th anniversary commemoration of the 31st December Revolution in Accra on Friday, December 31.
