AS Roman teen Ghanaian sensation, Felix Afena-Gyan has turned down the opportunity to represent his country Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to come off next year January in host country, Cameroon.
Felix Afena-Gyan was privileged to have his name feature in Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajevac’s 30-man team selection but he has turned down the invitation just as he did the last time.
According to reports, Felix Afena-Gyan who is somewhat of a discovery of the season for the Italian club AS Roma has opted to sit this AFCON out in a bid to cement his place in the club’s first team before making himself available for international duties.
His turning down the opportunity to feature for Ghana in the African Cup of Nations does not come as a huge shock however as he previously turned down an invitation to feature in the last two matches of the Black Stars 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa, citing unpreparedness as his reason to sit it out.
His agent, Oliver Arthur is on record to have ruled out the possibility of him featuring in the AFCON citing his young age and immaturity as reasons and that he will surely represent his motherland when he feels ready.
“For AFCON, I can’t say he is ready now, AFCON is for two months and it is a long time. I think we need to see the progress and how it goes. All I’m saying is that the boy needs a little bit of development before he will be fully ready for the National team”, Oliver Arthur said.
