Ghana Considering Playing Egypt And Sudan In International Friendly In Preparation For AFCON

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that it is holding discussions with the football associations of Egypt and Sudan over the possibility of engaging them in an international friendly between the senior national teams to serve as a form of warm-up in preparation for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) proper in January 2020.

It is anticipated that the Black Stars will participate in three games in Doha during a 17 days camping before all preparations come to an end for the commencement of the AFCON finals to be played in Cameroon

“We intend to play our first competitive game against one of the teams that will compete at the [Afcon] tournament on January 1, 2022,” head of communications of the Ghana FA, Henry Asante Twum said.

“That candidate is yet to be confirmed by the FA. But we are in talks with a number of countries including Egypt and Sudan.

“And then the third and last friendly which will be played on January 5 is a game against Algeria,” he added.

Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac has also provided the Ghana Football Association with his provisional squad for the AFCON tournament, insisting the selection of the players was done by him with no external influence.

The only blight in our preparations I would say is member of German Bundesliga team, Borussia Dortmund’s technical team, Otto Addo who was appointed as Assistant coach of the Black Stars on a part time basis, inability to join up with the Nation team for the AFCON due to engagements with the German football club
