Ghanaian boxer, Samuel Takyi has been voted the sports personality of the year at this year’s Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards, which happened to be the 46th edition and was held on Fridday, December 17, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Samuel Takyi did his country proud at the Tokyo Olympic games which was held in June, when he put his name in the history books of Ghana as the promised one to come break 29 years medal drought the country has had to ensure as he won bronze in the boxing competition.
19 years old Samuel Takyi had to see off stiff competition from fellow sportsmen like Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, who was a star player in Accra Hearts of Oak’s successful season which ended in them being crowned domestic champions last season and also Ghana’s Men’s 100m relay team, to go home with the sports personality of the year award
Samuel Takyi was also crowned the Best Amateur Boxer following his great showing in the summer Olympic games.
The SWAG Awards is an annual award ceremony event to recognize and reward outstanding figures in Ghana sports over the year
