The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) has come out to address concerns of the residents of Kumasi who fear their christmas celebrations will be marred by dumsor. According to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO), contrary to their fears, their christmas will be celebrated in the presence of lights, as the company is working tirelessly to ensure that the ensuing ‘dumsor’ ends before the start of the christmas festive season.
Speaking at a joint conference held by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Director of Northern Network services at GRIDCO, Vincent Boachie, said the company is currently working on the 330KV Aboadze to Kumasi transmission lines at Bogoso, which suffered some damage due to a communication tower
The Director of Northern Network Services at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO), added that three of the five damaged towers have since been fixed and that they are now left with getting the remaining two operational and assured that work is currently being done on getting them operational.
He said the reason for the unreliable power supply that the residents of Kumasi are fraught with is because most of the electricity supply is coming from the Akosombo Generation Station and generation enclave in Tema, adding that during peak period, the available transmission network cannot carry enough power to the country’s middle and Northern belts, which includes Kumasi.
