Ghanaian rapper, Omar Sterling who is a member of music duo R2bees is calling for a radical change in the mindset of the Ghanaian music landscape. According to Omar, the days of viewing Nigerian artistes as our competitors should be put behind us and lets us embrace a new era of collaboration to push the music of Africa beyond the shores of the continent.
Omar Sterling more popularly known as Paedae, expressed these sentiments in an interview with Okay FM while discussing the release of their latest album, ‘Back 2 Basics’.
“With our relationship with our colleagues in Nigerian, first of, I feel like Ghana, we should start to see Nigerian as our collaborators, not competitors. Because one hand washes the other, and vice versa. I think Nigerians have done a lot for Afrobeats music. But I believe Ghanaians are pioneers of Aforbeats music from my little know-how.”
He explained further that in inward rivalry between the two music industry is holding both countries back, as they both have to combine their resources to both achieve their potential
“I just believe that we have the music, but we don’t have the numbers. Nigeria has the numbers. So this hand should wash the other and vice versa. I feel like we should change the narrative. We should change our focus from who’s better than who to we all need each other.”
